Forest Monitoring Center

Welcome to the Virtual Forest Monitoring Center (WMZ). The primary goal of the WMZ is to inform the public about the current state as well as possible future developments of the forest in Germany based on current data and the latest scientific findings. Since the products shown are based on assumptions and models – which are subject to uncertainties – no guarantee is given – especially for the projections on the future of forests. More detailed information on the individual products can be found in corresponding scientific publications, which are linked on the individual product platforms.
The WMZ provides the following information:

  1. The remotely sensed current forest condition.
  2. An ecophysiologically informed tree stress indicator for the pilot region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (forest pulse).
  3. Current weather in Germany in a historical context for easier interpretation of forest condition (forest climate).
  4. Projections of the occurrence probability of Germany’s most common tree species under different climate change scenarios in the 21st century (forest scenarios).
